To Vera (4)

By George Sterling

        Twilight, and one lone hill
        Where sunset lingers still.
            Ah! faint! faint! faint!
I hear the crystal starlight on its way,
        Till golden orbs shall paint
In holy light the face to which I pray.

        Silence, and one wild pray'r
        To find you standing where
            The moonlight lies—
To Kneel, to gaze, to tremble, to adore,
    Finding within thine eyes
The light that shall be light forevermore.
